A roomful of women, and two men, who paid $25 each at a sold-out
luncheon at Hartford's Goodwin Hotel never found out "What
Men Don't Tell Women About Business"...but it didn't matter.
The scheduled main speaker Christopher Flett, a lecturer who bills
himself as an "alpha" male never arrived so the female
audience took matters into their own hands.
Kay Wilson of Kay Wilson Coaching & Training
in Ellington, jumped up from her seat and revved-up the antsy audience,
launching an open discussion of what bugs women about the way they
are treated in the workplace and the continued imbalance in promotions,
money and respect.
"I liked it," said Shannon Eterginio, a principal of
Crimson Communications in Farmington and a member of the Connecticut
Women's Council, which sponsored the event with the Connecticut
Real Estate Exchange.
"From my perspective, I disagreed with a lot of what was being
said and feel like things have come a long way," she said of
the impromptu discussion. "We could have gone on all day."
Event organizers said Flett apparently missed his train.
